The Nidderdale Loop is a classic Yorkshire Dales Mountain Bike Route in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The ride can be ridden in either direction, I prefer the anti-clockwise one which gives a nice descent to finish down to Lofthouse. It also gives you a massively challenging climb from Scarhouse Reservoir – must be said that this is a great descent but very short so try it in both directions to make up your own mind up
This is a red, as some of the climbs are steep and the descents rocky. You should expect to be out for at least 3 hours and it’s quite exposed so come prepered for all sorts of weather.
The best place to start in from outside Ramsgill Arms, in Ramsgill, just north of Pately Bridge. You can extend the route by starting from Pately Bridge an cycling up the east side of the reseviour and then back on the road to the west if you like.
