This is a great mountain bike route in the Peak District. It’s an awesome one for those riders with a bit of skill and fitness . It’s got some hard climbs, Wooler Knoll for example but some great descents to make up for it like the sweeping trail down Hagg Side.
There is a car park at Heatherdene which works well or a loads of spaces along the A57 and Ladybower Reservoir. The Ladybower Inn is just a stones through away too so great for a post-ride beer!
Starting in Heatherdene head north to the A57 and hang a right/turn to the east. Take the bridleway after the Ladybower Inn on your left and climb the rough track up Whinstone Lee Tor. It’s quite tricky up here with some challenging sections and stream crossing to navigate. As you head down you’ll connect with a pavement that somebody thoughtfully laid so mountain bikers can avoid a bog, very nice of them!
When you join the path at the Ladybower head north to Derwent Reservoir
Good loop with the possibility of extending it to explore some more of the area.
