Hit the Hills provides catered breaks in the UK, BOOK ON-LINE today
Big long climbs on unclassified remote roads in the middle of nowhere is how this route is best described. It’s a challenging days ride taking in the quieter spots in Snowdonia but with a few options for stopping off for refreshments at Bala, Coed-y-Brenin and Dolgellau.
The trail starts at the market town of Dolgellau or you could do it from our Coed-y-Brenin venue at Llanelltyd – BOOK ON-LINE today.
Starting from Dolgellau this route has a very long climb out of town towards Bala below the lofty Arran hills before gently dropping you to the shores of Bala Lake. You can continue on to the town itself adding a few clicks to your journey or cut off and head straight to Trawsfynydd on the old military road.
This is a desolate road across some baron land with a few gates and sheep to keep your mind off the gruelling climb as you make your way up to the Sarn Helen trail. At GR 730317 hang a left and head south west staying out of the coed-y-brenin forest until you have crossed the Afon Mawddach.
You can then stay off the A470 heading south west until you eventually arrive back at Dolgellau.
Note: This route takes you into a remote area with unpredictable weather, so make sure you are prepared for the day ahead even if the sun is out in Dolgellau!
