When New Force Mountain Bike Club Came to Stay

mam tor mountain bikingOn the weekend of the 18th May we had another mountain bike club staying with us, this time it was New Force from the Winchester area and the venue was again Bamford in the Hope valley. They came for three days and didn’t let the weather put them off riding the best the Peaks had to offer. The majority of the group arrived late on Thursday night after a 3-5 hour drive and managed to get a few drink in the pub across the road before calling it a night.

The following morning breakfast was slick and the packed lunches were all made ready for them to head out from the venue at 9:30 and take on the classic Cut Gate trail north of the Derwent Reservoir. There was a mighty headwind that day but fair play to them, they stayed out all day and made it to the far end of the trail.

They arrived back at about 5pm,  had some tea, coffee and beers then dinner was served at 7pm.  They made short work of the Steak and Ale Stew with dumpling followed by a Lemon Tart.  After dinner they went off to the pub across the road again.  (There is a pattern developing here!)

peaks cyclingSaturday morning and everybody was up a little later than the morning before but after another slick breakfast they picked their packed lunches up and headed out at about 10:30.  Today’s route pretty much took in all the best trails in the Hope Valley,  involved some pushing up Jacob’s Ladder and another big day out.

Come 8pm and after a few beers they were all starving. Luckily the three course dinner was more than enough.  We had a Carrot and Lentil soup to begin; followed by Roast Pork Chops,  Crackling,  Mash,  some Spring Greens and a Cider Sauce followed by a creamy Rice Pudding and home made jam for dessert.  Then it was time for the pub again. Some of the guests brought the Hit the Hills staff a few beers that night… must have done something right?

On Sunday morning they showed not signs of letting up were all out by 10am riding some of the awesome trails round Ladybower before heading back home.
