If you read Dirt Mag then you will have seen photos of Alex riding, racing across Europe and hanging out in Morzine with James McKnight. If you don’t, then read this and familiarise yourself with a fast boy from Wilmslow….
1.Tell us about yourself?
I am Alex Stock; bike rider man and boy, 26 from Wilmslow, North England.
2.What have you been up to this year?
Training, riding, racing, fly fishing, travelling and having as much fun as possible. I raced Maxiavalanche, Megavalanche and Superenduro’s
My bro James Stock, Sam Dale, team mate – Karim Amour, Manuel Ducci, James Mcknight.
4. Where has been the best spot to ride?
5. Do you ever get bored?
Yes a lot.
6. Has your bike ever penetrated your skin?
The pedals have been known to penetrate my shins on occasion.
Peak district, Llandegla & Mid Wales.
8. How did you get sponsored?
Entered a competition comprising an Enduro and a DH race in Les Gets, France. Won both of those then went to the final Superenduro of 2010 and beat my team mate in a couple of stages and the other lads in the comp.
9. Who is your favourite sponsor?
Riders Refuge provide friendly hosted, supremely well catered accommodation in Morzine but Kona do make incredibly well handling, strong, lightweight and beautiful bicycles so I can’t decide on a favourite. Charlie Evans Coaching and David Doig sporting mind coaching do a great job too!
13th in the Megavalanche was the worst race of my life with the best result… had a broken thumb and the splint fell off, my thumb was rattling… got taken out on the start… dropper seatpost broke, gears got stuck in 8th… I was happy to finish!
11. My best trick is a no-brakes trackstand, what’s yours?
12. Which area in the Portes Du Soleil is the best for riding?
No pedal mates races on Pleney!!!
13.Where can you get the best lunch in the Portes Du Soleil?
Riders Refuge or Grignotte.
… Riders Refuge.
15.Do you wear Lycra for either business or pleasure?
Yeah for business, the pleasure comes from being able to ride with your seat up because there’s no shorts to snag – just your balls.
16.Flats or spds?
Flats for riding properly, SPD’s for racing people on SPD’s.
17. Any ghetto on your bike?
Had a sweet gear shifter set up when I had a broken thumb. The left side had a big paddle bolted to it. Worked good, just had to use index finger for rear brake and downshifts, I got used to it and it was fine – used it for half the season.
I rode BMX on the streets every day when I was younger; people were like moving trees but softer!
19. What’s the best thing in life?
BMX Pedestrian Slalom.
20. Who should I interview next – can’t be beyond mortal reach e.g. Barrack Obama unless you have access to him, Twitter don’t count?
Toni Bou… He’s the boy!
